I’ve been trying for quite some time now to figure out what exactly I’d like to blog about. It finally occurred to me over our holiday vacation when my husband and I had time to putter around the house, organize our humble abode…and play. We did one of my most favorite things; we got unintentionally CREATIVE.
We started playing around with paint, bubbles, coffee, salt, printer ink, spray bottles…anything we could get our hands on without leaving the house. We both love finding doodles, doodads; little characters who pop out of a tile, a texture, a painty page before your very eyes. I may love creating characters out of thin air, but I love finding them even more.
They jump out of a tile under my feet while I’m bored waiting at the bank. They whisper sweet nothings in a little nook in the rock where I sit looking out to the sea. They dazzle me in a painty mess when I accidentally drop my paintbrush on a piece of blank paper, or an illustration-in-progress.
A small whale in the wood grain once made me giggle in the middle of a yoga class. I promise I’m not crazy. But once you start noticing them, they begin to show up everywhere.
They’ll ignite your imagination. They’ll invite laughter and curiosity. They’ll become your friends.
So that’s what I’ve decided to do. I’m going to start a series of blogs about how I find magical little characters in the midst of a painty mess, or a pattern in nature.
Find out what happens when you let a cloud in the sky, or a splash of paint that strayed from your brush become something else. Something quirky and new. Something leading you to a wonderful idea…
